Khichdi is such a dish that everyone from adults to children turns their face away from seeing it. There is a thought in the mind that only sick people eat khichdi but it is not so. Khichdi is a dish that people have liked since the Mughal period.

Mughal emperor Akbar and his son Jahangir loved Khichdi very much. This thing is also mentioned in many books. Whenever he used to go out somewhere and he did not feel like eating something heavy, he used to like to eat khichdi only. Many types of dry fruits were mixed in his khichdi along with dal-rice.

Now when the condition of people is bad in summer and the mercury is going near 45 degrees, then in this season khichdi is such a dish eat which you can keep your health healthy. You can easily make masala khichdi at home and feed it to your family members. In today's article, we will tell you an easy way to make masala khichdi. Serve this khichdi with papad, pickle, and curd, which will increase its taste even more.

Ingredients
1 cup rice
1/2 cup moong dal (washed)
1 large onion
1 large tomato
1 small potato
1/2 cup peas
2-3 green chillies
1-inch ginger
4-5 garlic cloves
Fresh coriander leaves (for decoration)
2 tbsp ghee or oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp cumin powder
Salt according to taste
4-5 cups water

Method
To make khichdi, first wash the rice and moong dal thoroughly and soak them in water for 15-20 minutes. Meanwhile, wash and chop all the vegetables. Now heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and when they crackle, add chopped green chilies, ginger, and garlic. Saute them for a few seconds.

After this, add onions and fry till they turn golden brown. Then add tomatoes and cook till they become soft. Now add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt.

Mix the spices well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Add chopped vegetables and fry for 2-3 minutes. Now finally strain the soaked rice and lentils add them to the cooker and mix well. Add 4-5 cups of water and mix. Now add salt to it as per taste and then close the lid of the pressure cooker. Give 3-4 whistles on medium flame, the khichdi is ready.
