Good sleep for children is very important not only for the parents but also for their mental health. A recent study has shown that children who do not get enough sleep in childhood may have an increased risk of mental illness, especially psychosis when they become adults.

This study was done by researchers from the University of Birmingham, Britain. In this study, the sleep patterns of more than 12 thousand children were analyzed. Researchers took information about the sleep duration of children between the ages of 6 months and 7 years and then evaluated their mental health at the age of 24 years.

Study results
The results of the study were shocking. Researchers found that children who consistently slept less had more than double the risk of psychosis as adults. Additionally, the risk of psychotic episodes in such children also increased almost four times. A psychotic episode is a condition in which a person loses touch with reality and starts having delusions.

Dr. Isabel Morales-Munoz, lead author of the study, says that this study does not prove a direct cause-and-effect link between lack of sleep and psychosis, but it certainly shows a strong connection.

Meaning of study
This study underlines the importance of paying attention to children's sleep patterns. Parents should encourage children to sleep well at night. Also, if the child has any problem related to sleep, then a doctor should be consulted. The findings of the study may also help make strategies for the prevention of psychosis in the future. However, more research is needed in this direction.

Tips for good sleep
- Put children to sleep and wake up at a fixed time every day.
- Minimize the use of electronic devices like TVs or mobile phones before sleeping.

- Create a calm environment before sleeping.
- Regular exercise is also beneficial for good sleep.

Good sleep is not only important for the physical development of children but is also important for their mental health. Parents should pay attention to children's sleeping habits and encourage them to get enough sleep.
