Today, LPG gas cylinders are used in most homes. There was a time when people in rural areas used traditional resources, such as cooking food on earthen stoves with wood and cow dung cakes. The biggest problem with cooking on the stove was that it caused a lot of smoke in the kitchens, due to which women cooking had to face many diseases. Given this problem, the Government of India is providing LPG gas cylinders to the needy women of the country for free under the Ujjwala Yojana. Due to this, LPG gas cylinders are now being used in most homes. Very few people know that LPG cylinders also have an expiry date, which is written on the cylinder itself. Let us know about this in detail in this article.

You must have often heard horrific news like a cylinder explosion. Many times such incidents also happen due to the cylinder having an expired date. Therefore, one should always check the expiry date of the cylinder before taking it from the hawker. It is very easy to check the expiry date of the LPG cylinder.

There are three strips on the upper part of the LPG gas cylinder i.e. near the regulator. Much important information is written there. You will find this information written on the gas cylinders of every oil company.

Some codes are written on the three strips on the top of the cylinder such as - A-23, B-25, C-24, D-23 etc. The numbers with these English letters have a special meaning. The letters A, B, C, and D written in English give information about the months. Like- A- January, February, March, April, May, June, C- July, August, September, D- October, November, December.

Now the numbers written in front of these letters indicate the year. Let us understand this with an example - if B-25 is written, it means that this cylinder will expire between April and June in the year 2025. Let us tell you that a new cylinder goes for testing after seven years and an old one after five years. This ensures that everything is fine in the cylinder.
