Foreign Accent Syndrome: There are some medical conditions which are difficult to explain properly. Their symptoms are also very strange. One of these is Foreign Accent Syndrome. This is such a rare condition, which affects the speech and language of a person. It can usually happen suddenly due to trauma to the brain or other disorders. Many such cases have come to the fore when people woke up in the morning and started talking in a different way.
Know foreign accent syndrome
Foreign accent syndrome (FAS) occurs when people suddenly start speaking with a different accent. This can also include speaking one's own regional language, just as a person is trying to speak another language. Your way of speaking is affected by this medical condition.
Let's understand better with an example. For example, an American person starts speaking English in British slang instead of US-accented English. Or the same person starts talking with a Spanish accent.
When did the syndrome appear
Foreign accent syndrome was first known in the year 1907. A French neurologist named Pierre Marie discovered this rare condition. At that time only 100 cases were reported. A person suffering from this syndrome can speak some words incorrectly. In this, your native language remains the same, but the way of speaking and some words can be spoken in a different way. This motor speech disorder is usually caused by some kind of brain problem or neurological condition.
Due to the syndrome
It can be triggered due to any kind of injury in the brain or nervous system. There is a risk of severe brain injury due to a car accident, which can trigger this syndrome. Please tell me that a brain tumour can also be the reason for this.
This is an extremely rare condition, but patients are usually referred to a speech-language pathologist, where doctors try to diagnose the syndrome through a series of tests.
