The right diet is very important for a person suffering from diabetes. Diabetes is a lifestyle disorder in which the blood sugar level of the sufferer is very high. The person suffering from this feels very thirsty and along with it, there is excessive urination, hunger, and fatigue. Along with this, there is a lot of difference in vision as well. But if you take a proper and balanced diet, then this disorder can be controlled.

Along with this, if weight loss is your goal then you should also pay attention to your calorie level. Nutritionist Shikha Gupta, active on social media, has created a sample diet plan for diabetes patients. You can also try this. Along with this, she has told us what options you can include on your plate.

Breakfast

In the morning breakfast, include 2 eggs and 100 grams of avocado with 10-15 soaked walnuts. Walnuts are known to help build resistance to insulin, control blood sugar levels, and reduce the risk of developing type-2 diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association considers eggs a good option for people with diabetes. That's because one egg contains about half a gram of carbohydrate and 7 grams of high-quality protein.

Lunch

You can have full-fat curd and 1 sweet potato for lunch. Along with this, add sautéed green beans to the plate. You can replace sweet potato with jowar or any other grain. If you have diabetes, sweet potatoes are a safe option to include in your diet in moderation. Sweet potatoes are a good source of fibre and are known to have a low glycemic index. Due to this, there is absolutely no effect on the level of blood sugar. On the other hand, eating green beans rich in high fibre and protein content releases sugar slowly in the blood.

Snacks

As a snack, have 3-4 strawberries, 200 ml of coconut milk and 2 tbsp of flaxseed smoothie. Naturally occurring coconut milk does not contain added sugar. Coconut milk is good for diabetics. It does not affect the glucose level excessively. It is low in carbohydrates but instead high in fibre and fat.

Dinner

For dinner, have 1 large bowl of steamed chickpea salad and 1 cup of mushroom soup on your plate. Chole is a good option for diabetic patients. It has a low glycemic index which helps in controlling blood sugar levels. Also, chickpeas are rich in antioxidants which eliminate toxins from the blood.

Similarly mushroom also helps with the symptoms and severity of diabetes in many ways. If you have diabetes, it is safe for you to consume mushrooms as they have a low glycemic index and glycemic load content.

Nutritionist Shikha says, “Protein intake can vary depending on your activity levels, kidney function and digestion. Fat should be in good quantity for diabetic patients as it helps in stabilizing insulin. Fat also helps in reducing the glucose load and keeps you full of energy. Healthy fats and low glucose load will help reduce bad cholesterol and improve good cholesterol which is a common problem with diabetes.

She further adds that maintenance of the protein, fat, and carb ratio is important when it comes to diabetes management. Maintain the quality of carbs in the right quantity. Make sure that the quantity of inactive carbs from vegetables is good.

This is a sample diet plan, so before taking any diet immediately, do consult your doctor.
