Corona has seen increasing health risks globally. Especially due to the new variant JN.1, the situation is worsening in many countries. Singapore and America are among the countries most affected by this new variant of Corona. Given the rapid increase in cases of infection here in the last month, health experts are also expressing apprehension about another possible wave of infection.
The increasing crowd in hospitals along with the infection in the USA has also become a cause of great concern. Even though the new variants of Corona are considered to be mild diseases, the news being received from America is scary. Meanwhile, experts have warned that this month could be challenging regarding infection in China. There is a possibility of another surge in Covid-19 infections in China in January.
On the other hand, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that the total number of patients admitted to COVID-19-related hospitals in America last week was more than 35,800. The number of patients in hospital continues to rise for the ninth consecutive week. Nearly 35 states, including New York and Colombia, have been seeing increasing numbers of people hospitalized with symptoms of cough and fever over the past few weeks. The number of people admitted to hospitals due to corona in the United States is at a level not seen since last winter.
Increase in the number of deaths due to Corona
According to CDC data, not only is the number of people admitted to American hospitals due to coronavirus increasing, but the death rate is also raising concerns. More than 1,600 deaths from COVID-19 are being reported each week, according to preliminary CDC data.
The CDC said in an update that despite weeks of sustained increases in COVID-19 positive tests, rising numbers of people in emergency services, and hospitalizations nationally, there is now some stabilization in the number of infections. Nevertheless, there has been an increase in the number of people admitted to hospitals for nine consecutive weeks.
Omicron sub-variant JN.1 is increasing the risk
According to media reports, Omicron sub-variant JN.1 is being considered the main reason for the worsening situation due to Corona in the country. This variant is spreading fastest in the country. CDC experts say there is no evidence that JN.1 is increasing the risk of serious diseases, but the Omicron sub-variant is currently responsible for 44 percent of Covid cases in the US.
Data from the CDC last month showed that its transmission rate has doubled in just two weeks.
What do health officials say?
Health officials say we are not able to track the actual number of infections in the country because most people either test at home or are not getting tested at all. However, there is some good news about this wave of infections. The updated booster vaccine, which is being used here from September 2023, has increased the level of protection in people against the new variant.
Studies show that people who have received an extra dose have a lower risk of being hospitalized or becoming seriously ill due to infection. However, the problem is that immunity starts decreasing after four to six months of vaccination.
