Corona infection has been a cause of global health concern for more than three years. Long Covid has also been a major risk with complications due to the infection, whose effects can last for years. Even in a recent study, a team of researchers reported that many people who were victims of corona still have the problem of loss of taste and smell even after more than a year has passed. Apart from this, the risk of post-covid is also being seen in many other organs including the lungs, and brain.

Health experts have so far believed that people who had a severe infection may be at a higher risk of developing long Covid, but research published in the journal Nature has raised questions on this claim as well. The scientists found that even people who had mild symptoms could still be at risk of developing heart disease as a side effect.

Risk of myocardial infarction
Medical reports suggest that cases of infection are being diagnosed in young people in many countries of the world including India. Surprisingly, many people in this were victims of mild symptoms of corona, and after that heart diseases have been confirmed for the first time.

A study done in Italy to find out about the risks of a heart attack after recovering from Covid-19 showed that the risk of myocardial infarction was 93 percent higher in many patients who recovered from the infection.

What did the study find?
The team of researchers found that people with COVID-19 over a year had a 63 percent higher risk of heart-related complications than others. At least 45 per 1,000 people who test positive for COVID-19 have an increased risk of heart problems – such as stroke or heart failure.

Studies evaluating the long-term cardiovascular side effects of COVID-19 found that even people with mild disease may have an increased risk of cardiovascular problems up to a year after infection.

Blood supply may be interrupted
Another research, conducted by the DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center in Houston, tried to find out the long-term effects of Covid on the heart. Researchers found that the coronavirus damages both the vessels and the heart muscle. This can also increase the risk of obstructing the supply of oxygen to the heart. Even after about six months of Covid-19, disturbances in blood flow were found in the small vessels of the heart, which can be a problem increasing many types of diseases.

Do a heart checkup
Researchers say that most studies to understand the side effects of Covid-19 have found that it can cause many types of complications for the body, in which the risk of heart disease is the highest. People who recovered from COVID-19 a year ago may be at risk of cerebrovascular complications, heart rate abnormalities, inflammation, or ischemic heart disease. In such a situation, even if you have only mild symptoms during the infection, still get a precautionary heart check-up done and keep taking measures to keep the heart healthy regularly.
