There is a lot of excitement in the markets on the occasion of festivals. Various types of sweets and dishes start being sold at sweet shops. The colorful and delicious sweets kept on the counters of confectionery shops attract everyone. People buy many types of delicious sweets during Diwali for enjoyment and gifting to friends and relatives. In such a situation, the demand for sweets increases a lot on the occasion of Diwali. As the demand for sweets increases, sweets are made in advance and bulk at the shops.

However, due to the sweets being prepared in large quantities in advance, the possibility of adulteration increases. Besides, there is a possibility of the sweets being substandard and spoiled. The festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated on the last day of Deepotsav. On this festival, sisters apply tilak to their brothers and make them sweet. Sweets bought from shops are not fresh, this affects the taste, and adulteration can also affect health. Therefore, if you are also buying sweets from the market for Bhai Dooj, then take some precautions. Identify whether the sweets are stale, adulterated or spoiled. Here the methods of identifying real and fake sweets are being explained.

Identification of real and fake sweets
Sweets are prepared from mawa, adulteration is done in mawa itself. Rub the mawa in your hand, if it is real then it will smell like desi ghee and if it is fake, it will have a strange smell.
Real mawa does not stick to the mouth when eaten, whereas fake mawa sticks to the mouth when eaten. Real mawa tastes like raw milk.
Try putting mawa in water, the adulterated mawa will break as soon as you put it in water and the real mawa will get diluted and dissolve in water.
Try eating the mawa, if it looks grainy then it is a sign of adulteration in.
Real mawa is white and fake khoya is light yellow in color.

Precautions while buying sweets
Cleanliness

When buying sweets, ensure that they are clean. Buy sweets only from a clean shop

Taste and preference
Taste the sweets before buying them. Buy appropriate sweets as per your taste. While buying sweets, keep your preferences in mind, if you like fewer sweets then go for light sweets.

Limited Quantity
Do not buy too many sweets and bring them home. Buy sweets in less quantity and as per requirement. There are two reasons for this, first – excessive sweets can lead to the consumption of extra calories and can be harmful to health. Secondly, if the sweets are not finished on time, their freshness and taste are also affected.

Brand and packaging
If you are buying packaged sweets, then buy only fully packed sweets of a good brand. Pay attention to the manufacturing date and expiry date on the packaging.
