Akshay learned comedy from these directors.
In a conversation at India Today Conclave 2026, Akshay Kumar revealed that throughout his film career, he has appeared in nearly 150 films and has had the opportunity to work with over 70 directors. However, he shares a special rapport with director Priyadarshan. Working with him has always been a joy, and he has learned a great deal about comedy from him. He also learned the nuances of comic timing and acting from director Rajkumar Santoshi. If he has even a modicum of comedy, these directors have contributed significantly to it. Comedy cannot be taught; it comes from within the artist.
Akshay's statement on comedy actors
He believes that it's easy to cry with glycerin in a scene, but it's incredibly difficult to make someone laugh from the heart. Akshay Kumar also said that comedy actors often don't receive the recognition they deserve at awards ceremonies. He's rarely seen an actor who performs comedy throughout a film win the Best Actor award. Even prominent actors agree that comedy is the most difficult genre.
