According to reports, the Asia Cup to be held in September will be played in Pakistan only. But, it will not be in Pakistan compared to India. But, UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka, and even England are also possible contenders to host 5 matches including at least two India-Pakistan matches.
According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, after the initial impasse, both BCCI and PCB seem to be getting closer to resolving this dispute. According to the proposal, the teams of India and Pakistan can play matches against each other outside Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
This time the Asian Cricket Council has handed over the hosting of the Asia Cup to Pakistan. But, the BCCI refused to send Team India to Pakistan. Since then, there was a situation of controversy regarding the organization of the tournament.
Agreed to move India's matches out of Pakistan
The report claimed that all the members of the Asian Cricket Council have agreed in principle to the proposal to move India's matches out of Pakistan to end this situation of conflict over the hosting of the Asia Cup. Last week, on the sidelines of the ICC Board meeting, it was agreed upon in the meeting of ACC member countries in Dubai. However, the final decision is yet to be taken. To make this path of solution correct, a working group has been formed, which will look after the travel plan and logistics, keeping in mind the consent of all the teams.
India-Pakistan teams are in the same group
The teams of India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group as the qualifier team in the 6-nation Asia Cup tournament. Whereas, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are part of the second group. A total of 13 matches including the final will be played in the Asia Cup within 13 days. As per the format of the 2022 Asia Cup, the top 2 teams from each group advance to the Super 4, and the top two teams then play the final. In such a situation, India and Pakistan are expected to compete three times in the Asia Cup.
