The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is about a week away. Let's take a look at the 5 new rules that will make IPL more exciting and better than ever.
1. The playing eleven can be changed after the toss-
After the toss in IPL 2023, the captains of all 10 teams can change their playing eleven. They will go with two different team sheets for the captain's toss. Earlier in IPL, before the toss, the captain had to give the playing eleven sheets to the match referee, but now according to the new rules, after the toss, the captain can choose his playing eleven based on the situation. It will be mandatory to name five substitute players in the playing eleven sheets. This change will help franchisees to choose their best XI. Whether they decide to bat first or bowl first. The impact player rule will be applicable in the next season as well.
2. DRS will also be for wide and no-ball-
IPL 2023 will also get DRS for wides and no-balls this time to make it more attractive, fairer, and better than before. Earlier, players used DRS only when they were out or not out, but now DRS will be used for wides and no-balls as well. Let us tell you that umpires have made many mistakes in giving wide and no-ball decisions during IPL matches in the past, due to which the teams have to pay the price even after losing the match. However, this time the players will get a big relief by getting DRS for wides and no-balls as well.
3. Impact Player Rule-
The impact player rule will make IPL 2023 very exciting. During the toss, the captain must also name 5 substitutes along with his playing eleven on the team sheet. Before the completion of the 14th over of the innings, any one of these 5 substitutes can be brought in as an impact player. An impact player can bat and bowl in place of any other cricketer in a match as a substitute. An impact player can only be fielded at the end of an over, the fall of a wicket, or an injury to a player. If a match is reduced to 10 overs or less due to rain or other reasons, the affected player will not be fielded.
4. Punishment for wicketkeeper or fielder's mistake to the whole team-
During any match in the IPL 2023 season, if a team's wicketkeeper or fielder changes position before the batsman plays the ball, the umpire will declare the ball dead and five penalty runs will be added to the batting team's account.
5. Penalty also for slow over-rate-
During any match in the IPL 2023 season, if a team fails to bowl its overs within the stipulated time, that team will be allowed to have only 4 fielders outside the 30-yard radius during each over.
