Friends, as we all know, the Indian Premier League is the world's most popular and lucrative league. Its 19th season is set to commence on March 28th, and preparations are currently in full swing. Discussions often tend to revolve around the massive salaries and bonuses received by the star players. However, the umpires—who stand on the field to ensure that the game is played strictly according to the rules—rarely receive the same level of attention. So, let's find out exactly how much money IPL umpires earn.
**The Crucial Role of Umpires in the IPL**
Umpires are responsible for enforcing the laws of cricket, making critical decisions, and maintaining discipline on the field. In a fast-paced tournament like the IPL, every decision—whether it involves a close run-out, an LBW appeal, or a no-ball call—can have a significant impact on the outcome of the match.
**How Much Do IPL Umpires Earn Per Match?**
**On-field Umpires:** Approximately ₹3 lakh per match
**Third Umpires:** Approximately ₹2 lakh per match
**Fourth Umpires:** Approximately ₹2 lakh per match
**Elite Umpires** (ICC Panel or Highly Experienced): Up to ₹3.7 lakh per match
**Development Umpires:** Approximately ₹60,000 per match
**Additional Bonuses for Playoffs and the Final**
Umpires officiating in crucial matches, such as the playoffs and the final, receive additional bonuses.

**Playoff Matches:** Elite Umpires can earn between ₹5 lakh and ₹8 lakh as a bonus.
**Final Match:** The bonus amount can increase even further, depending on the specific assignment. Total Earnings in a Season
If an umpire officiates in approximately 12 to 15 matches during a single season, their total earnings can range from ₹25 lakhs to ₹40 lakhs—or even higher.
In addition to match fees, all IPL umpires also receive:
A fixed seasonal retainer fee of approximately ₹7.33 lakhs
Travel allowance
Accommodation expenses and other match-related costs
IPL vs. T20 International Match Fees
Interestingly, umpiring fees in the IPL are significantly higher compared to those for international T20 matches. For T20 International matches, umpires receive only between ₹1.13 lakhs and ₹1.25 lakhs per match—a figure considerably lower than the ₹3 lakhs per match paid in the IPL.
