India produced approximately 1.085 billion tons of coal in 2024. In comparison, the country's crude oil production was approximately 28.9 million tons and natural gas production was approximately 28.8 million tons. This means that coal alone accounts for approximately 95% of India's total fuel production. This is why India has reached number four in this global ranking.

Which country is number one?
China leads the world in fuel production. In 2024, China produced approximately 4.81 billion metric tons of fuel. Coal accounted for the largest share of this. The United States came in second with approximately 2.28 billion tons. America's fuel production differs significantly from India's, as it produces a significant amount of crude oil and natural gas alongside coal. Russia came in third with approximately 1.46 billion tons, followed by India.
