Sri Lanka was all out for 284 in their first innings on the third day of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium. At one point, Sri Lanka had lost five wickets for just 90 runs. Sonal Dinusha (100) and Niroshan Dickwella (80) then steadied the team with a 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket. India had scored 462 runs in their first innings, while Sri Lanka scored 284 runs. Thus, Team India has gained a significant lead of 178 runs in the first innings.

For India, young spinner Manav Suthar took the most wickets, with four. Experienced Ravindra Jadeja took three. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Kuldeep Yadav each chipped in with one wicket.

As soon as Sri Lanka's innings ended, rain began to fall, and the day's play was called off. The Sri Lankan batsmen struggled against the Indian spinners, losing five wickets for 90 runs. Sonal Dinusha played a brilliant century, scoring 100 runs off 168 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes. Dinusha, who scored the first century of her career in her fourth Test, rescued the team from a poor start by sharing a 146-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Niroshan Dickwella (80). Niroshan Dickwella (80), returning to the team after a long absence, hit seven fours in his 115-ball innings.

Sri Lanka's innings got off to a disappointing start. Nishan Fernando was dismissed without scoring. Dinesh Chandimal then failed to make a significant impact, falling to Manav Suthar for just 4 runs. Lahiru Kumara struggled briefly, but he too failed to withstand Manav's spin bowling, returning to the pavilion after scoring 27 runs. Meanwhile, Kamindu Mendis was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav after scoring 14 runs.

Sri Lanka appeared to be in trouble after losing four wickets for 59 runs. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva, along with Sonal Dinusha, attempted to stabilize the innings. The two batsmen added 31 runs for the fifth wicket, but the partnership didn't last long. Ravindra Jadeja delivered another blow to Sri Lanka with his brilliant bowling. Dhananjaya de Silva failed to understand his excellent spin delivery and was caught by KL Rahul.

The Sri Lankan team, which was in trouble after losing 5 wickets for 99 runs in the first session, made a remarkable comeback in the second session. The pair of Sonal Dinusha and Niroshan Dickwella batted brilliantly and faced the Indian bowlers resolutely throughout the session. In the second session, the Sri Lankan pair added 116 runs without losing a wicket in 29 overs. By the tea break, Sri Lanka had posted 214 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of 5 wickets in the first innings. Dinusha was batting on 62 runs after facing 115 balls, while Dickwella remained at the crease with 71 runs from 102 balls. The Indian bowlers, who had completely dominated the first session, struggled in the second session. Earlier in the day, India's first innings was reduced to 462 runs.
