Who are Ahmadiyya Muslims?

The Ahmadiya Muslim community was started in Qadian village in Ludhiana district of Punjab. In 1889, Mirza Ghulam Ahmed declared himself Caliph and taught lessons like peace, love, justice and purity. Mirza Ghulam Ahmed considered it as the revival of Islam and gathered people against fundamentalism and religious war. Due to this liberal thinking of the Ahmadiya community, they are irritating in the eyes of fundamentalists. After the riots in 1974 in Pakistan, the then Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto declared Ahmadiya Muslims as non-Muslims. According to the law here, Ahmadiyas cannot declare themselves as associated with Islam and if they do so, they will be punished for up to 3 years. Due to being different from common Muslims, they are tortured a lot in Pakistan.
