Virat Kohli now plays only ODIs in international cricket, having retired from T20s and Tests. There's often debate about whether he'll play in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Kohli himself has responded to this question. Without naming anyone, he said that if he's made to feel like he has to prove his ability, he won't be in that position. It's worth noting that news recently surfaced that the BCCI had told senior players that if they want to play for the national team, they must also play domestic cricket. In this interview, Kohli also explained why he played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Virat Kohli spoke about this in an interview with Mayanti Langer on the Royal Challengers Bangalore YouTube channel. When asked what phase of his career he is currently going through, he said, "I've reached a point where I know that you make records, you play a good innings, but tomorrow you have to start again. You set a goal and think that if you reach it, everything will be fine, but then when you achieve it, you realize it's not over."

When Mayanti asked him about the debate on whether or not to play in the 2027 World Cup, he said, "My view is clear. If I can contribute to the environment I am a part of, I will definitely be recognized. But if I am made to feel like I have to prove my worth and importance, I will not be in that position because I am completely honest about my preparation. I work hard and am grateful to God that cricket has given me so much. And when I take the field to play, I give my 100 percent."

I give my 100 percent

Kohli further said, "If you want me to run from boundary to boundary for 40 overs in an ODI match, I will do it without any complaint, because I prepare accordingly. I am prepared to field every ball for 50 overs as if it is the last ball of my career. I will bat with the same passion, run between the wickets with the same dedication and do whatever is possible for the team."

I'm not made for a place like this

Virat Kohli clearly stated that if I have to prove my worth and importance even after giving my 100 percent and working so hard, then that place is not meant for me and my view on this matter is very clear. I played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy because I love playing cricket. I reiterated there too that I love cricket and that is why I was able to enjoy that tournament."
