Air India Plane Crash: On Saturday, the Civil Aviation Ministry held a press conference for the first time regarding the horrific plane crash that happened in Ahmedabad on June 12. The ministry said that Air India flight AI-171 could reach a height of only 650 feet after taking off from Ahmedabad airport, after which the plane started losing altitude rapidly.
The plane crashed a minute after takeoff, the pilot had made a 'may day' call.
Civil Aviation Secretary Sameer Kumar Sinha said that the plane had gained an altitude of only 650 feet after taking off. Soon after this, the plane started losing altitude and the pilot sent a 'may day' call to ATC at 1:39 pm. Within a minute, the plane crashed on the medical hostel premises in Meghaninagar.
There was no technical problem before the accident
Sameer Sinha also said that before the accident, the plane had completed the Paris-Delhi-Ahmedabad journey without any technical problem. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu expressed grief over the accident and said that he too had lost his father in a road accident, so he can understand the pain of the victim families.
Committee formed for investigation, will submit report within 3 months
The central government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the Air India accident, which will submit its report within three months. This committee, headed by the Home Secretary, will include officers above the level of Joint Secretary of the Central and State Governments. The committee will investigate the causes of the accident, review the existing SOPs and guidelines, and give comprehensive suggestions to deal with such incidents in future.
Investigation of Dreamliner has started, 8 planes have been investigated.
On the instructions of DGCA, Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes are being investigated. There are a total of 34 Dreamliners in India, out of which the investigation of 8 has been completed. There were 242 people on board the plane that crashed, out of which 241 died and only one person survived. More than 20 people also lost their lives in the medical hostel complex, where the plane crashed.
