Eye Safety During Holi: Holi is a festival of happiness and colours, but sometimes if these colours get into the eyes, it can case problems. In such a situation, even a little carelessness can be dangerous. If colour or gulal gets into the eyes…

What to do if Holi colors enter eyes: Synthetic colors are used a lot in Holi and these are very dangerous for the eyes. But what if such chemical colors enter the eyes during the fun of Holi! If the color or gulal enters the eyes, it can cause irritation, redness and infection in the eyes. In such a situation, it is important to take the right steps immediately so that the eyes can be saved from any serious damage. So, before Holi arrives, let us tell you here today what you have to do immediately if the color enters the eyes, so that the eyes remain safe.

If color gets into your eyes during Holi, do these things immediately-

Do not rub your eyes -  According to Dr. Saumya Sharma, Senior Consultant, Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, if color gets into your eyes, avoid rubbing your eyes immediately. By doing this, the color particles go further inside the eyes, which can increase irritation and also increases the risk of injury or infection in the cornea. It would be better if you close your eyes and blink repeatedly, so that the tears of the eyes can help in removing the color.

Wash eyes with clean water-  The most effective way to remove color from eyes is to wash them with clean water. Gently pour lukewarm water on the eyes and keep washing for 10-15 minutes. If sterile saline solution is available then use it. Doing this will soothe the irritation and the effect of the color will gradually reduce.

Eye drops or artificial tears-  Use preservative-free eye drops or artificial tears to maintain lubrication after washing the eyes. This can also clear the remaining color present in the eyes and provide relief from dryness.

Contact a doctor- Many people make the mistake of applying rose water, milk or herbal extracts when their eyes burn, but do not do this because it can increase the risk of infection. If the burning sensation in the eyes persists, vision becomes blurred or there is excessive redness and swelling, contact a doctor immediately.

Keep these things in mind while playing Holi - -

Avoid rubbing your eyes repeatedly.

- Play with wet colours instead of dry Holi.

- Stay away from chemical colours.

- Keep washing your eyes every few minutes.

- Use glasses instead of contact lenses.
