Gmail Spam Issue: Millions of people around the world use Gmail to send and receive email. From job applications to banking alerts, OTPs, business updates, and important documents, many important information is received through email. However, sometimes important emails end up in the spam folder instead of appearing in the inbox. Consequently, users don't receive timely information and miss many important updates. If you're experiencing this issue, don't worry; changing a few simple settings in Gmail can fix it.

Why do important emails go to spam?

The spam folder in Gmail is designed to identify suspicious and unwanted emails. However, sometimes the system mistakenly considers emails that are actually important as spam. This can happen if the sender isn't in your contact list, if an email has been previously marked as spam, or if Gmail's filter settings aren't configured correctly. This is why emails containing job, banking, or other important information can end up in the spam folder.

First Steps to Remove Emails from the Spam Folder

If an important email has been moved to a folder, it should be marked as Not Spam. This signals to Gmail that the email is safe and significantly reduces the likelihood of future emails from the same sender ending up in spam. On a computer, open Gmail, go to the Spam section, select the relevant email, and click the Not Spam option. Mobile users can go to the Gmail app and click the Report Not Spam option.

Save important email addresses in Contacts.

Google says that Gmail considers email addresses saved in their contacts to be more trustworthy. That's why it's recommended to save the email addresses of important individuals, companies, or institutions in Google Contacts. To do this, open Google Contacts, create a new contact, and save the relevant email address. This will increase the likelihood of their emails appearing directly in your inbox in the future.

Gmail filters can provide a permanent solution.

If emails from a specific person or organization are repeatedly going to spam, Gmail's filter feature can prove to be very useful. This feature allows you to set rules for a specific sender. To create a filter, click the search option in Gmail's search bar. Then, enter the relevant email address in the form section and select the Create Filter option. Activate the Never send it to Spam option here. After this, emails from that sender will start arriving directly in your inbox.

What should mobile users do?

Android and iPhone users can also work around this issue by removing the email from their spam folder and adding the sender to their contacts. However, creating custom filters is currently only available through Gmail on a computer.
