Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh — What should have been the happiest night of his life turned into a nightmare for Kamal Singh Sondhia. On his wedding night, just hours after the vows, the groom overheard his new bride whispering a sinister plan on the phone — she spoke about drugging the family and fleeing with jewelry and cash. Shocked, Kamal lifted her veil, only to discover she wasn’t the woman he thought he married.
Wife Swap & Wedding Scam Worth Rs 11 Lakh
Kamal had tied the knot during a mass marriage ceremony in Limboda village on April 14. But what he didn’t know was that a fake bride had taken the place of the one shown to him earlier. As per police investigation, the marriage was nothing but a well-orchestrated scam involving a payment of ₹11 lakh, with ₹5.75 lakh going to the girl’s supposed father and ₹5.25 lakh to a broker named Kalu Singh.
“I’m Not Radha, I’m Saloni” — Bride Confesses
When confronted, the bride initially denied any wrongdoing. But under pressure, she revealed her real identity — Saloni Gond, a married woman from Billod near Khandwa. She admitted to being part of a plot masterminded by Zorawar Singh and others, with the intention of looting the groom’s family.
Threatened Groom with Rape Case
Kamal told police that when he threatened to report the fraud, Saloni tried to intimidate him by threatening to frame him for rape. Realizing the depth of the conspiracy, he rushed to the police on April 15.
Five Arrested, Two Accused on the Run
Police have arrested Saloni Gond, her actual husband Jitendra Gond, Bhopal-based Shariq Khan, and brokers Kalu Singh and Balu Singh. All five have been sent to jail, while the key conspirators Zorawar Singh and his wife remain absconding.
Lima Chauhan police said the accused had previously arranged such fraudulent marriages. A manhunt is on to nab the remaining culprits.
