Dream of playing World Cup despite facing a ban of three and a half years! Bold decision of Brendan Taylor at the age of 41

39-year-old Zimbabwean cricketer Brendan Taylor was once the backbone of the team but at present he has been banned for three and a half years for violating the ICC's code of conduct for corruption. However, his ban will end in July later this year and after that he can play cricket for Zimbabwe again.

The batsman is hopeful of making a comeback after the ban ends and he believes that he can also play in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Taylor said, "I still want to play and I believe I can make an impact as a player. I look at where I am physically and mentally and if I don't think I can do it, I don't bother. Givemore has really supported me on this. They put the coaching role on hold for now and said, 'Can you play and try to push yourself to the 2027 World Cup?' I assumed I would be 41 then, but with moderation, I'm living my true form."

Despite his time away from cricket, Taylor will continue to play at St John's. He said, "I have some great nets and I spend a lot of time in the indoor high-performance centre there. I get there nice and early and come back in the afternoon and do everything again and motivate myself."

Taylor admitted to alcohol and drug problems. He said, "At that time, I also admitted myself to a rehab center in Nyanga region of Zimbabwe on the Mozambique border. I spent 90 days there with another patient and a sponsor who showed me a new way of living." Let us tell you that Taylor has played 34 Tests for Zimbabwe and scored 2320 runs, 6684 runs in 205 ODIs and 934 runs in 45 T20 Internationals.
