Does blowing a conch reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea? The truth was revealed in a study.

Sleep Apnea: A new study has revealed that blowing the conch, which is considered a religious and cultural symbol in the Indian tradition, can be helpful in reducing the symptoms of sleep apnea.

Due to today's busy and fast-paced lifestyle, people are getting many diseases. One of these is a sleep-related disease called sleep apnea. This is a serious sleeping disorder in which a person's breathing stops repeatedly during sleep or the airways get blocked. During this time, the patient has to wake up for fresh air, which not only spoils the sleep but also increases fatigue, irritability, and other health problems during the day.

Till now, its treatment has been mainly done with a CPAP machine, which delivers pressurized air to the patient while sleeping by putting a mask on the nose and mouth. However, this method is not affordable for everyone. Due to this, scientists and doctors are working on new treatments. Meanwhile, a new study has revealed that blowing the conch, which is considered a religious and cultural symbol in the Indian tradition, can be helpful in reducing the symptoms of sleep apnea. So let's know whether blowing the conch really reduces the symptoms of sleep apnea.

What is sleep apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition in which the muscles of the throat become very loose during sleep, causing tissues such as the tongue, palate, and tonsils to fall backwards and completely block the windpipe. Due to this blockage, the person has difficulty breathing repeatedly and has to wake up from sleep repeatedly. Due to which the risk of fatigue, irritability, and many types of diseases increases during the day.

Does blowing a conch reduce symptoms of sleep apnea?

According to the study, blowing the conch activates the muscles of the lungs and throat and can reduce the symptoms of sleep apnea. In this study, research was done on 30 patients, which showed that the quality of sleep improved by 34 percent in people who blew the conch, while daytime sleepiness decreased, oxygen level improved, and hypoxia index declined by 4.4 percent. While blowing the conch, a person has to breathe deeply, which increases the capacity of the lungs. There is more pressure in blowing the conch, which strengthens the muscles of the throat and tongue and does not block the airways during sleep. Apart from this, the vibration generated by the conch activates the muscles and improves the breathing process.
