In a tragic incident in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, a police constable lost his life while trying to apprehend two criminals involved in a violent altercation with a truck driver. The daring police chase ended with the criminals’ car crashing into a canal, forcing the policemen to jump into the water to catch them. Unfortunately, one constable succumbed to injuries sustained during the rescue operation.

Incident Details at Chakkar Chauraha, Kotwali Police Station Area

The episode unfolded near Chakkar Chauraha under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station. According to reports, a heated dispute broke out between two criminals traveling in a Swift car and a truck driver. Things escalated quickly as the miscreants beat up the truck driver and fired shots into the air at around 9:30 pm on Friday night.

Upon receiving an emergency call, the Dial 112 police team rushed to the scene. The criminals fled immediately upon seeing the police, triggering a high-speed chase.

Car Crash into Ganj Canal and Electric Shock

The chase reached a critical moment near Salamabad Bharera village, where the criminals' car collided with an electric pole and then plunged into the Ganj canal. Both policemen, Constables Manoj Kumar and Gangaram, bravely jumped into the canal to apprehend the criminals.

Tragically, the collision caused the electric pole’s wire to break and fall into the canal, electrifying the water. Both the policemen and criminals suffered electric shocks and injuries as a result.

Rescue Efforts and Hospitalization

Senior officials, including SSP Abhishek Jha, SP City Sanjeev Bajpai, and CO City, quickly arrived at the scene. All injured persons were pulled from the canal and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Constable Manoj Kumar succumbed to his injuries and passed away, while the other constable and one of the criminals, identified as Neeraj, are undergoing treatment.

Ongoing Investigation and Manhunt

The police have confirmed that one of the criminals is in custody and being questioned at the hospital, while the search for the other accomplice is ongoing.

SSP Abhishek Jha expressed condolences for the fallen constable and assured that the police force is fully committed to apprehending the remaining criminal and ensuring justice.
