Two Bollywood giants are currently clashing at the box office — Sunny Deol’s 'Jaat' and Salman Khan’s 'Sikander'. While 'Jaat' may have outperformed 'Sikander' on Monday, it’s still struggling to recover its hefty budget. Here's how both films fared on April 14 and where they stand in their box office journey.
'Jaat' Stumbles Despite Strong Start
Sunny Deol’s high-budget action drama ‘Jaat’, made on a ₹100 crore budget, had a promising opening weekend with a total of ₹40.25 crore in its first three days:
- Thursday (Opening Day): ₹9.50 crore
- Friday: ₹11.75 crore
- Saturday: ₹13 crore
- Sunday: ₹14 crore
However, despite the Ambedkar Jayanti holiday boost, Monday’s collection dropped to ₹7.5 crore, bringing the 5-day total to ₹47.75 crore.
With competition from upcoming releases like 'Kesari 2', 'Jaat' now depends on the extended holiday weekend from April 18 to 20 to recover momentum.
'Sikander' Slows Down in Third Week
Meanwhile, Salman Khan’s 'Sikander', which had a solid run in the first two weeks, saw a major dip in its third weekend:
- Sunday (Day 15): ₹60 lakh
- Monday (Day 16): ₹26 lakh
This marks a steep fall in footfall, even during the holiday period. However, on the brighter side, ‘Sikander’ has crossed the ₹100 crore milestone, with a total collection of ₹109.36 crore — making it Salman’s 18th film to enter the 100-crore club.
Verdict So Far
- Winner on Monday: 'Jaat' (₹7.5 crore) vs 'Sikander' (₹26 lakh)
- Total Earnings:
- 'Jaat': ₹47.75 crore in 5 days
- 'Sikander': ₹109.36 crore in 16 days
Despite Monday’s edge, ‘Jaat’ has a long way to go to break even. With 'Sikander' now winding down its theatrical run, the next few days are crucial for Sunny Deol’s film to either stabilize or fall short in the face of new competition.
