What is fitment factor?

The fitment factor is a multiplier used to convert the old basic salary into the new pay structure. The calculation is as follows: Old Basic Salary × Fitment Factor = New Basic Salary. For example, a fitment factor of 2.57 was implemented in the Seventh Pay Commission. This increased the basic salary of Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000.

Salary at 1.83 fitment factor – Rs 32,940

2.0 at fitment factor – Rs 36,000

At 2.57 fitment factor – Rs 46,260

At 3.83 fitment factor – Rs 68,940

That is, after applying the 3.83 fitment factor, a basic salary of Rs 18,000 could directly become Rs 68,940. However, this is just a tentative estimate.

Big increase in the second level also

For example, a basic salary of Rs 29,200 at Level 5 can increase to Rs 111,836 using a factor of 3.83. A basic salary of Rs 56,100 at Level 10 can increase to Rs 214,863. At Level 18, a basic salary of Rs 2.50 lakh can increase to Rs 9.57 lakh using a factor of 3.83.

When will the final decision be made?

The 8th Central Pay Commission is currently seeking suggestions and feedback from various employees, pensioners, and other stakeholders. The commission is studying changes to the pay structure, fitment factor, pay matrix, DA, DR, HRA, and other allowances.
