Operation Sindoor: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about Operation Sindoor on June 6, a wave of pride and valor ran across the country. Know the full story of Operation Sindoor here...
Some events are not just dates in history, they shake the conscience of a nation. The night of May 6, 2025 became one such date when India gave a befitting reply to the killing of its innocent citizens. This military action called 'Operation Sindoor' not only destroyed the terrorist hideouts of Pakistan, but also gave the message that now India does not sit silent.
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about Operation Sindoor on June 6, a wave of pride and valor ran across the country. He said, "Now on hearing the name of 'Operation Sindoor', Pakistan will remember its shameful defeat." These statements were not just words, it was the declaration of India's changed strategy in which now terrorism is answered not just by condemnation but by decisive action.
Why did Operation Sindoor happen?
On 22 April 2025, a barbaric terrorist attack took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 innocent civilians (25 Indians and 1 Nepali) were killed. Hindu men were particularly targeted in the attack. Investigations revealed that Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and The Resistance Front (TRF) were involved in this attack - and all of them had the backing of Pakistan. India made it clear that Islamabad was behind this attack, although Pakistan, as usual, rejected these allegations.
Indus Water Treaty suspended
In response to this terrorist attack, India took a historic step on 23 April 2025 and the Indus Water Treaty of 1960 was suspended. For decades, Pakistan continued to get 80% of the water under this treaty, but after this decision, there was a severe shortage of water there, which increased its concern and restlessness.
Operation Sindoor: When and how did the action take place?
India retaliated within just two weeks of the attack, carrying out 'Operation Sindoor' between 1:05 and 1:30 am on the night of 6 and 7 May. This mission was a pledge to get justice to the widowed women whose husbands were killed in the Pahalgam attack, hence the name of this operation 'Sindoor'.
Participation of all three forces together
All three forces - Army, Air Force and Navy - participated jointly in this operation. This was the third major military response after the 2016 surgical strike and the 2019 Balakot airstrike. In this action of just 25 minutes, Indian forces destroyed 24 targets with precision.
Where did the attacks take place?
5 terrorist hideouts in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) were targeted:
Masjid Syedna Bilal – Muzaffarabad
Gulpur Training Camp – Kotli
Sawai Nala Camp – Muzaffarabad
Masjid Ahl-e-Hadith – Barnala (Bhimbar)
Another secret place
4 hideouts were destroyed in Punjab province of Pakistan:
Sarjal Camp – Sialkot
Mehmoona Zoya hideout – Sialkot
Markaz Taiba – Muridke
Masjid Subhan Allah – Bahawalpur
Mourning prevails in Pakistan
After this operation, there was a stir in the military and intelligence system in Pakistan. According to media reports, many terrorists were killed in these attacks and a large amount of weapons and communication equipment was destroyed. However, Pakistan, like before, remained silent about this attack and could not give any concrete statement even on international forums.
