Delta Airlines Emergency Landing: Delta flight DL446 had to make an emergency landing at LAX airport after an engine caught fire shortly after takeoff. All passengers are safe. The FAA has begun an investigation into the incident.

Delta Airlines flight DL446 from Los Angeles to Atlanta on Friday (July 18, 2025) had to make an emergency landing due to an engine fire shortly after takeoff. The incident took place at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The flight was on a Boeing 767-400 aircraft.
The video that surfaced on social media showed that flames were coming out of its left engine during the flight. However, no passenger or crew member was harmed. Firefighters arrived on time and controlled the fire. The engine malfunctioned as soon as the flight started. The pilot immediately declared an emergency and turned the plane back towards the airport. Air traffic control also helped immediately, and emergency services were alerted.
According to Flightradar24, the plane first headed towards the Pacific Ocean, then returned to the airport after circling over Downey and Paramount. During this time, the pilot and crew completed all the necessary checks and prepared for a safe landing. According to the passengers, the flight captain made an announcement that the fire team is confirming the fire in the engine. The cause of the fire is not yet known. The US Aviation Agency (FAA) has started an investigation.
This plane is about 25 years old and has two CF6 engines from General Electric Company. Delta Airlines said that shortly after takeoff, there were signs of trouble in the left engine, due to which the flight had to return.
It is worth noting that earlier in April, another Delta flight caught fire at Orlando airport. At that time, the A330 aircraft was preparing to fly to Atlanta, which had 282 passengers and 12 crew members. No one was injured in that accident either.
