Shariful Islam: Many questions were raised about the person arrested for attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. It was alleged that the police have arrested someone else because the person seen in the CCTV is different from the arrested accused. However, it is now clear that the arrested person is the same person who attacked, whose CCTV footage is going viral.

Police today said that facial recognition technology has confirmed that Mohammad Shariful Islam, accused in the stabbing case of actor Saif Ali Khan, is the same person seen in the CCTV footage installed on the stairs of Saif's house. Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, was arrested by the police in the neighboring city of Thane on January 19. 

Questions raised on the report of fingerprints

Earlier, reports had surfaced regarding the previous fingerprints, which claimed that 19 fingerprints taken from Saif Ali Khan's house did not match with the arrested accused Shariful Islam. Mumbai Police had sent 19 sets of fingerprints from Saif's house to the CID. Regarding which, reports citing sources said that the two fingerprints did not match with each other.

Despite this, the police conducted other forensic tests. The clothes worn by the accused, the knife used in the attack, a towel and a bag were all sent for forensic tests. Islam is said to have entered India illegally from Bangladesh. After crossing the border, he allegedly changed his name from Mohammed Shariful Islam Shahjad to Bijoy Das. 

There was a deep wound in the back

Islam allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan's 12th-floor house in Bandra on the morning of January 16 with the intention of stealing. When the 54-year-old resisted, the intruder stabbed him six times before fleeing. Saif was badly injured in the attack. He was rushed to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital in an auto, where doctors performed an emergency surgery. One of the knife wounds was very close to his spinal cord. He was discharged after five days in the hospital and advised bed rest.
