Pakistan’s crushing defeat against India in the T20 World Cup has triggered major unrest within the team camp. After suffering a humiliating 61-run loss, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi reportedly lost his temper and strongly reprimanded the players for their disappointing performance.
According to reports, Naqvi was present at the stadium to witness the high-voltage IND vs PAK clash but left midway through the match after realizing that Pakistan was heading toward another comprehensive defeat against their arch-rivals.
Naqvi Walks Out of the Stadium Midway
The PCB chairman, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, arrived at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to watch the marquee T20 World Cup encounter. However, he reportedly stayed only until the 12th over of Pakistan’s chase.
By that time, Pakistan had already lost five wickets while chasing India’s challenging total. Witnesses claimed that Naqvi was seen leaving the VIP box and heading straight to his car, signaling his frustration with the team’s performance.
A PTI report quoted a senior PCB source as saying that the chairman left early because it became clear that Pakistan would once again fail against India in a crucial match.
Strong Message Sent to the Team
Following the defeat, Mohsin Naqvi conveyed a stern message to the squad through team manager Naved Akram Cheema. The message reportedly stated that such below-par performances in high-pressure matches are “neither understandable nor acceptable.”
Sources added that Naqvi was visibly angry and did not mince words while expressing his disappointment. The PCB chief made it clear that repeated failures against top teams, especially India, would not be tolerated anymore.
This reaction has further intensified speculation about major changes within the Pakistan team setup.
Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi Under Scanner
According to PTI, head coach Mike Hesson also held a serious discussion with the players after the loss. He reportedly told the squad that they had failed to perform anywhere near their potential.
The report further claimed that star players Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi are under close observation ahead of Pakistan’s next match against Namibia. Both players could be dropped from the playing XI if the management decides to make bold calls.
Pakistan must secure at least one point in their upcoming game to stay alive in the tournament, making the selection decisions even more critical.
How the Match Unfolded
India, batting first, did not get off to an ideal start as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed early. However, Ishan Kishan played a sensational knock, scoring 77 runs off just 40 balls.
Kishan stitched a crucial 87-run partnership with Tilak Varma, stabilizing the innings and shifting momentum in India’s favor. India eventually posted a strong total of 175 for seven wickets.
In response, Pakistan’s chase collapsed almost immediately. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah ripped through Pakistan’s top order, reducing them to 13 for three wickets.
Pakistan never recovered from the early blows and were eventually bowled out for just 114 runs, suffering a heavy 61-run defeat.
Pressure Mounts on Pakistan Team
The loss has not only dented Pakistan’s World Cup campaign but also exposed deeper issues within the team. With the PCB chairman openly expressing anger and senior players facing possible exclusion, Pakistan cricket appears to be heading toward a phase of tough decisions.
All eyes are now on Pakistan’s next match, where the team will need a strong comeback to keep their tournament hopes alive and silence growing criticism.
