33-year-old Saransh Jain has been included in the squad for the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. This is his first national team selection. The all-rounder earned his place on the strength of his impressive domestic performances, and his debut could be in Sri Lanka. Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer praised him, calling him a better bowler than Washington Sundar.
Speaking on his YouTube channel (Wasim Jaffer Official), he said that Sri Lanka has many left-handed batsmen, so India needs an off-spinner. According to him, Washington could be a good batsman, but Sarang has the edge in bowling.
He said, "There are many left-handed batsmen in the Sri Lankan team and you will need a good off-spinner. Washington Sundar is not fit, but I believe Saransh Jain is a better bowler than Sundar. Even though Washington is a good batsman, Saransh has real potential as a bowler."
Jaffer said he was glad that Saransh's age wasn't considered. Saransh is 33 years old and has been selected for the national team for the first time. The former cricketer said, "He was selected solely on the basis of his ability. This doesn't surprise me. He has consistently performed well in domestic cricket, especially red-ball cricket. He is a hardworking cricketer who works tirelessly in red-ball cricket. He doesn't use many variations, but he has the ability to consistently hit the same spot."
Wasim Jaffer praised Saransh's seam presentation, saying, "He has a seam presentation similar to what we've seen in bowlers like Ashwin and Harbhajan. I think he's a good selection.
