'I played well in the World Test Championship final but I was dropped', Ajinkya Rahane's pain spilled out

Senior batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who is out of the Indian Test cricket team, is scoring runs consistently in domestic cricket and he hopes that he can still make a comeback in the Indian Test team by performing well in domestic cricket. It has been about 18 months since Rahane last played Test cricket for India, but it seems that the 36-year-old is not in the plans of the Indian selectors in Test cricket at the moment.

The Mumbai batsman was the top scorer for India in the final of the World Test Championship against Australia at the Oval in 2023 with a total of 135 runs, this final India lost by 209 runs after which Rahane was appointed as the vice-captain of India for the West Indies tour but suddenly Rahane was dropped from the team after the West Indies tour and since then he has not played any Test match for India.

Rahane also scored a second innings hundred against Haryana in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy quarterfinal win in Kolkata and showed that he still has a lot of cricket left in him. "I also batted well in the World Test Championship final in 2023. After that I was dropped from the team. Being selected or not selected is another thing and it is the job of the selectors. But I felt I played well in that WTC final," Rahane said after the Ranji match. Rahane scored 8 and 3 in the two Tests against West Indies after the WTC final and did not bat in two innings during the two-Test tour. This year, Rahane was the highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 469 runs at a strike rate of 164.56. The right-handed batsman, who scored 5077 runs in 85 Tests for India, has scored 437 runs at an average of close to 40 in the Ranji Trophy this season.

He said, "I have only one goal right now and that is to play cricket with a positive attitude and whatever happens after that, will happen. Domestic cricket has given me everything. I still have that passion. Before any match, I still have the desire and hunger that I had before. I don't know about the future, but I know I am still far away. So I am giving my 100% in domestic cricket."
