'I don't have a PR team, my cricket is my PR', Ajinkya Rahane is not going to give up without returning to Team India

Senior batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who is out of the Indian Test cricket team, is making every effort to return to the team. Rahane, who is in great form in domestic cricket, wants his bat to speak for him and not any kind of PR. During an interview, Rahane said that he does not have a PR team and his cricket is his PR.

Rahane last played for India during the West Indies tour in 2023, the Mumbai batsman was dropped from the Test team after playing in the World Test Championship final against Australia that year. Rahane then returned to the domestic circuit and has been in great form since then. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, the 36-year-old has scored 437 runs in 12 innings, including a century in the quarter-finals against Haryana.

Rahane also had a stellar season in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he was the highest run-scorer with 469 runs in nine matches at an average of 58.62 and a strike rate of 164.56. Speaking to The Indian Express, Rahane said that people have advised him to speak up and be in the news but he is not like that.

Rahane said, "I was always shy, now I have opened up. My focus has been on playing cricket and going home. No one told me that certain things will be needed to move forward. Even today, sometimes I think just play cricket, go home. Now I am told that I should talk about my hard work. People say you need to be in the news. I don't have a PR team, my only PR is my cricket. I have now realised that it is important to be in the news. Otherwise, people think I am out of the circle." Speaking further, Rahane said, "I want to return to Test cricket. I still have the passion and enthusiasm. I am currently playing Ranji Trophy, trying to give my all to the Mumbai team. The goal to return once again is clear. When I was dropped from the team a few years ago, I scored runs and was selected for the World Test Championship final and then I was dropped from the team again. But what is in my control? To play. It was difficult to watch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy sitting at home. Yes (it was difficult to watch the Border-Gavaskar Trophy sitting at home). Earlier, I was dropped despite performing well. So, somewhere I feel that I can still serve the Indian team. I still have cricket left in me."
