This situation can come in front of any car driver. 1. Don't panic, stay calm

Sudden panic can lead to wrong decisions.

Hold the steering firmly and keep a cool head.

2. Pump the Brake

If you have a hydraulic brake system, pressing the brake repeatedly can build up pressure and make the brakes work.

3. Use the handbrake (emergency brake) correctly

Pull the handbrake slowly, pulling it suddenly can cause the car to spin or overturn.

This method is more effective at low speeds.

4. Downshift Gears

In a manual car, gradually shift down to lower gears (5th → 4th → 3rd → 2nd → 1st)

In an automatic car, shift to low gear (L) or sports mode (S) so that the car speeds up by engine braking.

5. Use roadside items

Slowly rubbing the car against a guard rail, bushes, or the edge of a sidewalk may cause the car to stop.

Driving onto a gravel or mud section of open highway will slow the car.

6. Use the horn and lights

Honk the horn continuously and flash the headlights to alert nearby vehicles.

7. Do not turn off the engine!

Switching off the engine while running may cause the steering to lock and you may lose control of the car.

8. Find open space away from traffic

If possible, turn the vehicle into an empty field, open plot, or service road.

9. Get your brakes checked regularly

Get the car serviced regularly and keep getting the brake fluid, brake pads and discs checked.
