BHIM MyUPI: New AI Assistant Can Help Verify UPI Recipients, Track Complaints and Manage AutoPay

UPI has transformed the way people in India send and receive money. From paying a local shopkeeper to transferring money to friends or settling monthly bills, digital payments can now be completed within seconds.

However, the convenience also comes with occasional problems. A transaction may remain pending, money can accidentally be sent to an unintended recipient, users may struggle to understand an AutoPay debit, or filing and tracking a payment complaint can become confusing.

To simplify such situations, the BHIM app has introduced an AI-powered assistant called MyUPI, designed to let users interact with UPI support through a conversational interface.

According to the information announced around Global Fintech Fest 2026, NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL), a subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India, introduced the service on September 22, 2026.

The feature aims to make common UPI-related tasks and grievance handling easier by allowing users to explain their problems in everyday language.

What Is BHIM MyUPI?

MyUPI is an artificial intelligence-based assistant integrated into the BHIM ecosystem.

Instead of navigating through several menus or trying to determine which complaint category applies to a payment problem, users can describe their issue conversationally.

For example, someone dealing with a pending UPI transaction can ask the assistant for information about that payment. Similarly, a person who has already raised a complaint may be able to check its status through the assistant.

The idea is to make digital payment support easier to understand, particularly for users who may find conventional forms and technical payment terminology confusing.

MyUPI Supports Multiple Indian Languages

Accessibility is an important part of the new service.

According to the supplied details, MyUPI is currently available 24 hours a day and supports Hindi, English, Telugu, Bengali and Tamil.

Multilingual support could make the service more convenient for users who prefer discussing financial transactions in their primary language rather than navigating an English-only interface.

The assistant can be accessed through the Quick Actions section of the BHIM app.

What Can Users Do With MyUPI?

The AI assistant is designed to help with several common UPI-related requirements.

Users can seek information about previous transactions, get assistance with payments that are showing as pending, raise complaints relating to UPI transactions and check the progress of an existing complaint.

After a complaint is registered, users may also use the associated reference number to obtain further information or track the case.

This could reduce the number of steps involved in finding transaction information or following up on a previously reported problem.

However, users should remember that an AI assistant can simplify access to support, but the actual resolution of a financial dispute may still depend on banks, payment-system procedures and the nature of the transaction.

Pay Safe Can Help Check the Recipient Before Payment

One of the notable features associated with MyUPI is called Pay Safe.

Sending money to the wrong UPI ID can be particularly troublesome because users may not always be able to reverse a completed transaction immediately.

Pay Safe is intended to provide an additional verification step before payment.

A user can enter a UPI ID or scan a QR code and check the recipient information displayed before proceeding with the transaction.

This can help users confirm that the name associated with the payment destination matches the person or merchant they intend to pay.

It is still important to check the recipient's displayed name carefully before entering the UPI PIN and approving any transaction.

Safety Switch Adds Another Security Option

MyUPI also includes a feature referred to as Safety Switch.

It is intended for situations where users believe their UPI-linked financial access may be at risk—for example, if their phone has been lost or stolen or they notice suspicious activity.

The feature is designed to help users take protective action involving their linked bank account or UPI access.

Users should follow the instructions displayed inside the official BHIM application and contact their bank immediately if they suspect unauthorised transactions or account compromise.

MyUPI Can Help Users Understand AutoPay Mandates

UPI AutoPay allows recurring payments to be made under mandates that a user has previously authorised.

This is commonly used for subscriptions, utility payments and other recurring transactions.

Sometimes, users become concerned when an AutoPay transaction occurs without requiring them to enter a UPI PIN at that particular moment. This can happen because the recurring mandate was authorised earlier according to the applicable payment process.

MyUPI is designed to make it easier for users to view and understand their AutoPay mandates.

Having clearer visibility into active mandates can help users identify recurring payments they recognise and take appropriate action where a mandate is no longer required.

MyUPI Does Not Mean Wrong Payments Are Automatically Reversed

The Pay Safe feature may help reduce mistakes by allowing users to verify recipient information before authorising a payment, but it should not be interpreted as a guarantee that money accidentally transferred to the wrong person will automatically be recovered.

UPI payments are typically processed quickly, and recovery of an incorrect transfer can depend on the circumstances and the dispute-resolution process.

Prevention therefore remains important.

Before approving any UPI payment, users should verify the recipient name, UPI ID and transaction amount shown on the confirmation screen.

Never Share Your UPI PIN With an AI Assistant or Another Person

While AI-powered support can make digital payments more convenient, basic security precautions remain essential.

A UPI PIN should only be entered on the authorised payment screen when approving a transaction. Users should never disclose their UPI PIN, OTP, debit-card details or other confidential banking information to another person over a phone call, message or social-media platform.

Users should also remember that receiving money generally does not require entering a UPI PIN. Requests to enter a PIN to “receive” money should be treated with caution.

With features such as conversational complaint assistance, recipient verification, Safety Switch and AutoPay management, BHIM MyUPI aims to make UPI support simpler and safer. Its biggest benefit may be helping users understand what is happening with their transactions and take the appropriate next step without navigating complicated support menus.
