Bara massacre: 31 years ago, when Naxalites played Holi with blood, 40 Bhumihars were beheaded

Many massacres took place in Bihar in the 1990s. During that time, not just one massacre but several massacres focused the attention of the whole country and the world towards Bihar. In such a situation, questions were also raised on the law and order of the state. Among these massacres was the Bara massacre of Bara village located in Tikari block of Gaya district. Even today, the people of the village get scared remembering this massacre that took place 31 years ago in Gaya. Everyone was stunned by the news of this massacre that took place on the night of 12-13 February 1992.

According to official figures, 40 people of Bhumihar caste were brutally murdered in this massacre. Bara massacre was such a massacre that even today the past gets scared, stops and shivers remembering it. Even time wept in this massacre. The brutality was such that such a massacre is hardly seen anywhere else in modern times.

When the village was shaken by bombs and bullets

Senior journalist Sanjay Upadhyay, who keeps a close eye on crime news, tells that it was the dark night of 12 February 1992, when hundreds of Naxalites of CPI Maoist surrounded Bara village at around 9 o'clock in the night. The entire village was shaken by the sound of bullets and bomb blasts. Naxalites attacked this village together. This attack was carried out after making a complete plan. During this, Naxalites collected people of Bhumihar caste one by one and then tied their hands and feet and took them outside the village, to the wasteland. The Naxalites created havoc in the village for about four hours.

The dance of death till 1:30 in the night

Sanjay Upadhyay said that the terror of the Naxalites was such that they did not show any mercy while carrying out this horrific incident. The Naxalites who entered the village from the west at 9 in the night created havoc in the entire village till about 1:30 in the night. During this time they slit the throats of 40 people in a brutal manner. Out of these, 32 people died on the spot, while two people died during treatment in the medical college and one died in PMCH 22 days after the attack. Many injured including Lakhan Singh, Gopal Singh, Yogendra Singh, Dhananjay Singh, Virendra Singh were saved. The condition of the administration was such that after the Naxalites left, the DIG of the range, SP, police station in-charge reached the village.

Hearing in TADA court

The hearing of the Bara massacre case was held in the TADA court. In June 2001, 13 accused were sentenced, in which Kirani Yadav was made the main accused. Its trial went on in a special court for more than a decade. During this time, more than half a dozen witnesses had identified Kirani Yadav. The informant of Bara massacre was Satyendra Sharma. In this massacre, a case was registered against 34 people named and hundreds of Naxalites as unidentified. It is said that on 12 February 1992, the CPI Maoist Naxalite organization carried out this incident. The court of District and Session Judge Manoj Kumar Tiwari sentenced Kirani Yadav alias Suryadev Yadav alias Ramchandra Yadav, the main accused of Bara massacre. Kirani Yadav was sentenced to life imprisonment. Along with this, a fine of five lakh rupees was also imposed. Apart from this, 13 other accused were also sentenced. The sentence was changed to life imprisonment

Among the accused Nanhe Lal, Krishna Mochi, Veer Kunwar Paswan and Dharmendra Singh were sentenced to death, but the then President changed the death sentence of all four to life imprisonment. In 2009, Naresh Paswan and Yugal Mochi were sentenced to death, while three accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence. The special thing is that Kirani Yadav was arrested 15 years after the incident.

There is a memorial in the village

Even today there is a memorial in this village in memory of the massacre. There is also a stone plaque in the memorial, which has the names of all those people who were killed. The echo of this brutal massacre was heard all over the country, whoever heard it was completely shocked.
