Central employees are eagerly awaiting the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission. Meetings are ongoing in various states. Separate meetings are scheduled for October in Bengaluru and Mumbai, where discussions may take place regarding the fitment factor, DA, HRA, etc.

Meanwhile, another question remains: is the fitment factor alone sufficient to determine basic salary, or is there something else? So, let's explore what else is required to determine basic salary.

The fitment factor alone isn't enough.
In fact, the most debated topic among central government employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission is the fitment factor. The fitment factor is used to convert the current basic pay into the new basic pay. However, the fitment factor won't be the sole basis for determining the new basic pay. It will also be influenced by several other factors, such as:

• Current Basic Salary
• Dearness Allowance (DA)
• Inflation and the cost of living
• Pay Matrix and Pay Levels
• allowances and other benefits
• financial capacity of the government

The fitment factor has not yet been finalized
under the 8th Pay Commission. Employee organizations have demanded different fitment factors, such as 3.833 and 4.0, but these are demands, not final decisions by the government or the commission.

Therefore, any salary based on a figure such as 2.75, 3.0, 3.5, or 3.833 cannot be considered the confirmed new basic salary. The final amount will be determined only after the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission and government approval.

Two meetings are scheduled in October.
The next meeting of the 8th Pay Commission is scheduled to be held in Bengaluru on October 7th and 8th. The following meeting will be held in Mumbai on October 22nd and 23rd. Final applications will be accepted until October 10th. It remains to be seen what discussions take place in these meetings and what decisions are made.
