Today's women are so busy trying to balance their career and household responsibilities that they ignore their health. But they may not know that the increasing stress of the office and unhealthy diet are making them vulnerable to a dangerous disease. According to a recent report, cases of TB (tuberculosis) are increasing in women and the main reasons behind this are mental stress and poor diet.
On the occasion of World TB Day, lung experts have presented a shocking report. According to the report, women working in multinational companies (MNCs) and housewives are increasingly falling prey to tuberculosis (TB) due to work stress and unhealthy diet. Experts say that career-oriented professionals and housewives often give priority to work or family over their health, which weakens their immune system and increases the risk of falling prey to infections like TB.
Expert opinion
According to Dr. Kollabattula Ratnababu, interventional pulmonologist at Aster Prime Hospital, women often ignore their own health while taking care of their families, leading to delay in diagnosis and treatment. Pulmonologist Dr. M. Rajeev added that India contributes 25% of global cases.
Tuberculosis
B is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It remains dormant in most people, but becomes active when immunity weakens. Conditions such as poor diet, stress, diabetes, thyroid disease and high blood pressure can significantly reduce immunity. Dr. Ratnababu said that women (especially housewives) are more prone to lymph node TB.
What is the solution?
To tackle TB, the central government has launched initiatives like the Nikshay Poshan Yojana, which provides free medicine and nutritional support of Rs 500 per month for TB patients. Also, all essential TB drugs have been combined into a single tablet to simplify treatment. The Telangana government has stepped up its efforts with programmes like the 100-day TB elimination special programme, mobile TB test units and the Health Nagaram project.
