Amid rising tensions with Iran , the US has increased its military buildup in the Middle East. Speculation is rife that the US may soon launch military action. Amidst this, a statement from the White House has clarified US President Donald Trump's strategy regarding Iran. 

What did White's spokesperson say?

According to Reuters, during a briefing at the White House on Tuesday (February 24), White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said, "Donald Trump's first option is always diplomacy, but as he has demonstrated, he is also prepared to use the lethal force of the US military if necessary. The final decision-maker here is always the president."

According to the US State Department, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will brief top congressional leaders, known as the Gang of Eight, on Iran at the White House on Tuesday. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Rubio will brief lawmakers on the Iran issue.

The US has deployed a large naval force near Iran amid fears of attacks. Earlier on February 19th, US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Tehran: "Either it reaches a deal within the next 10 to 15 days, or face consequences. " According to Reuters, Trump may mention potential attacks on Iran over its nuclear program in his State of the Union address on Tuesday night.

He called this reporting "100% false."
