By Jitendra Jangid- Friends, there is severe heat in North India, which has caused an earthquake in the life of the common man, people are not able to go out of the house due to the sun, the temperature has gone above 45 degrees Celsius in many states, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for many states, warning of severe heat for the next few days. Record breaking temperatures are being seen in cities like Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
Delhi is burning with severe heat
On Tuesday, a scorching temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Ayanagar, Delhi, while there was severe heat in Palam and Ridge areas.
Other hotspots in Delhi:
Safdarjung: 43.8°C
Palam: 44.6°C (heatwave)
Lodhi Road: 43.6°C (heatwave)
The Ridge: 45.0°C (heatwave)
Nights are not going to bring any respite, with temperatures remaining abnormally high due to 'hot night conditions'.
Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan worst affected
Bhatinda (Punjab) recorded 47.6°C (severe heatwave).
Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) recorded 47.4°C, while Kota recorded 46.3°C.
Temperature in Sirsa (Haryana) rose to 46.2°C.
IMD's red and orange alerts
Red alert for Rajasthan due to severe heatwave.
Orange alert for Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh for the next three days.
No major relief is expected soon, though there may be a slight drop in temperature (2-4 degrees Celsius) later.
Why is the mercury rising?
Reduction in rainfall and thunderstorms
Anti-cyclonic circulation over northwest India, which caused temperatures to rise above 45 degrees Celsius.
Public life disrupted
People are avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours (12 noon to 3 pm).
Dependence on cooling measures like AC and cold drinks has increased.
Officials recommend staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and following IMD updates.
