Sita was born from the earth
Goddess Sita is considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. According to the Ramayana, Sita was the daughter of King Janak. However, she was not born like any other ordinary girl. Instead, she appeared from the earth and was found in a mysterious pot. King Dasharatha accepted her as his daughter and named her Sita. Therefore, Sita is also known as Janak Nandini and Bhumija. The story of Sati's origin is one of the greatest examples of divine birth in Hinduism.
Goddess Sita Birth Story
According to the mythological and religious story surrounding Sita's birth, the people of Mithila were suffering from a severe drought due to years of lack of rainfall. King Janak, concerned by the struggles of his subjects, consulted sages, saints, and scholars to find a solution. They advised that, to appease Lord Indra, King Janak must personally plow the fields, touch the earth, and perform a yajna. Preparations began.
King Janak completed the yajna and then took a golden plow and began plowing the dry land. The plow's tip struck something hard. The king and the villagers were astonished. He ordered the site to be excavated. The soil was thoroughly removed, revealing a shining box. When the box was opened, it revealed a peaceful, radiant, supernatural, and beautiful newborn girl. Upon seeing the girl, King Janak realized that this was no ordinary girl, but a divine gift. As soon as King Janak lifted the girl in his lap, the sky became overcast and heavy rain began. Thus, years of drought in Mithila ended. In the form of Sita, the childless King Janak and Queen Sunayana were blessed with a daughter.
