Hidimba Devi Temple located in Manali is dedicated to Bhima's second wife, the demoness Hidimba. There is no idol of the goddess installed in the temple, rather Hidimba's footprints are worshipped here. This temple is also called Dhungri temple. This temple is a four-storey structure located in the middle of the forest. Devotees and tourists come from far and wide to see it.
Hidimba lived in this area with her brother Hidimb. She had vowed that she would marry the one who would defeat her brother in a fight. When the Pandavas passed through this area during their exile, Bhima killed the local people to save them from Hidimb's atrocities. In this way Hidimb's sister Hidimba married Bhima.
Bhim and Hidimba had a son named Ghatotkach, who was killed fighting for the Pandavas in the Kurukshetra war. This temple looks like a vase when seen from a distance. This temple is 40 meters high cone-shaped and the walls of the temple are made of stones.
There is a wooden door in the Hidimba Devi temple. On top of it are small figures of goddess and animals. The beam of the door frame of this temple has Navgrahas and female dancers from a story of Lord Krishna. There is no idol of the goddess in this temple, but there is a huge stone with her footprints, which is worshipped as the idol of the goddess. There is also a temple dedicated to Ghatotkach at a short distance from this temple.
