Our India is called the country of festivals and fairs. Many types of fairs are organized in India. You must have heard about many fairs but hardly heard about the 'ghost fair'. Yes, there is a village where a fair is held every year and it is called 'Bhooton Ka Mela'. Every year on the first full moon day of Makar Makar Sankranti, the 'ghost fair' starts in Malajpur village of Chichauli tehsil, about 42 km from Betul district. Now, why is it called the fair of ghosts? So let's know about the story behind it.
It is believed that in 1770 a saint named Guru Sahib Baba took a living tomb here. It is said that the saint was miraculous and used to control ghosts. A fair is held here every year in remembrance of Baba. Guru Sahib Baba's temple is especially famous all over India for the removal of evil spirits. Even before making a complete round of Baba's samadhi, the process of begging Baba with folded hands and feet and rolling on his stomach to ask for forgiveness goes on until the so-called ghost is removed from his body. That is, the invisible soul does not leave.
The scene of this fair is such that someone has chains tied on their hands, while someone has fetters on their feet. Some are dancing, some are teasing while whistling. People say that these are the people who are possessed by 'ghosts'. People may not believe it, but the fair claims indeed eliminate the existence of ghosts and their influence. The priest here, Lalji Yadav, pulls the hair of the people suffering from the evil shadow by force. Priests also sweep many times. Here people can be seen standing in long queues waiting for their turn to get the evil spirits removed from their heads.
It is believed that the victims who get cured are weighed with jaggery here. Tons of jaggery are collected here every year, which is distributed as prasad to the people who come here. It is said that despite the accumulation of jaggery in such a quantity, flies or ants are not seen here. People consider it a miracle of Guru Sahib Baba. One has to take a bath before circumambulating the tomb. It is believed here that as the person who is a victim of a ghost obstacle does parikrama, he gets cured. Aarti is performed here every evening. The specialty of this aarti is that even the dogs of the court join in the aarti and add their voice to the sound of a conch shell.
As soon as the process of worshiping Baba starts, the ghost introduces itself through the mouth of the person suffering from the obstacle and vows to leave the victim. In this state, the afflicted soul becomes adorned and prostrates at Baba's feet and asks for forgiveness. One thing can be said here with the claim that if a person suffering from phantom obstruction comes here, he leaves here after being free from phantom obstruction.
