In a horrifying incident, Om Prakash, the former Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, was brutally murdered by his wife, Pallavi, in their home in Bengaluru. The shocking crime unfolded after a week of escalating domestic tensions. According to police investigations, Pallavi and their daughter have been arrested and are being interrogated for their roles in the murder.
Details of the Crime:
The gruesome sequence of events began when Pallavi allegedly threw chilli powder on Om Prakash’s face, causing him severe burning sensations. As he desperately tried to relieve the pain, Pallavi restrained him by tying his hands and legs. In a violent and calculated attack, she then stabbed him multiple times with a knife, leading to his death from excessive bleeding.
Pallavi's Statement:
During police questioning, Pallavi revealed that the couple had been engaged in intense arguments for several days. She claimed that Om Prakash had been threatening her and their daughter with a gun, even suggesting that he would shoot them. According to Pallavi, the quarrel on the day of the murder escalated when Om Prakash allegedly tried to harm them. In an attempt to defend themselves, she and their daughter resorted to using chilli powder and oil before tying him up and ultimately stabbing him.
The Police Investigation:
After the murder, Pallavi reportedly contacted local authorities and informed them of the incident. The police are currently questioning Pallavi and their daughter regarding the crime. Initial investigations suggest a possible land dispute in Dandeli, Karnataka, which may have been a contributing factor to the fatal altercation. A few months earlier, Pallavi had filed a complaint at the local police station about this issue, and she was reportedly suffering from schizophrenia and on medication at the time of the murder.
Background of Om Prakash:
Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer, had an illustrious career. He served as DGP of Karnataka from March 1, 2015, and was respected for his handling of critical law enforcement matters, including riot control. Originally from Champaran, Bihar, Om Prakash had also earned a master’s degree in geology before joining the police force. His sudden death has sent shockwaves throughout the state, with many questioning how a decorated officer could meet such a tragic end.

The police continue to investigate the role of Pallavi and their daughter in the murder. A post-mortem of Om Prakash’s body is expected to take place shortly.
