International Labour Organization Report: Today, both employed and unemployed people are suffering for one reason or another. Those employed are grappling with increasing work stress, long hours, and job tension. Whether in the office or working from home, mental fatigue is becoming a common problem. A recent report by the International Labour Organization (ILO) shows that this stress is now seriously affecting the health of millions of people around the world.
More than 840,000 people die every year.
According to a new ILO report, more than 840,000 people worldwide die each year due to work-related psychosocial risks. These risks include problems such as long working hours, job uncertainty, and workplace harassment. The report, titled "The Psychosocial Working Environment: Global Developments and Pathways for Action," states that these risks are linked to heart disease, mental health problems, and even suicide.
The report also states that this problem is impacting not only the health of employees but also the productivity of organizations and the global economy. Approximately 45 million DALYs (disability-adjusted life years) are lost each year and approximately 1.37 percent of global GDP is affected.
What are the recommendations of ILO?
- Developing a better policy and regulatory framework
- Creating a safe and healthy workplace environment
- Strengthening employee participation and collective organization
- Focusing on aspects such as workload, control, and justice
What is the solution?
To address this problem, better coordination between government and industry is essential to formulate and implement appropriate policies. Furthermore, workplace monitoring and regular evaluations should be increased to identify employee concerns in a timely manner. Most importantly, the workplace should be safe and balanced, ensuring that employees maintain both mental and physical health
