There are signs of a serious crisis within the Pakistan Army. After the recent incident by the Mujahideen in the Pahalgam region of Pakistan, an atmosphere of fear has been created among the army. This has deepened the fear of a possible war with India. Due to this, incidents of resignation and desertion in the army have increased. A confidential advisory (Advisory No: ISPR/OPS/2025/04/028) issued from the General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi of the Pakistani Army has clearly admitted that after the Pahalgam incident, fear has spread among the army personnel and large scale resignations and requests for service resignation are coming up.
This advice, issued by Major General Faisal Mahmood Malik, HI(M), DG ISPR, is addressed to officers and soldiers of all ranks of the army. It states that this situation has arisen due to "disinformation" aimed at undermining the morale, unity and iman (faith) of the army.
India's possible strict action after the Pahalgam terror attack has caused a huge uproar in Pakistan. According to reports, about 1200 Pakistani soldiers have resigned due to fear of retaliation from the Indian Army. There has been a spate of resignations in the Pakistani army and the morale of the army is continuously falling. Security analysts say that India's strictness has created a wave of concern within Pakistan. Meanwhile, India has increased vigilance on the border and is preparing to take decisive action against terrorism.
Warning of strict action
Three main instructions have been issued for the army personnel in this advisory:
Follow the oath: The soldiers have been reminded that as a Mujahid, their duty is to protect the nation, which is a sacred responsibility. They have been asked to ignore fear and stand firmly.
Maintain morale: The advisory emphasizes that the army has to be prepared for war under all circumstances. Referring to actions like 'Operation Swift Retort', commanding officers have been instructed to boost the morale of the soldiers by organizing darbar (meeting).
Maintain discipline: A warning has been given of strict action against those who resign or leave the army without permission. In such cases, strict punishment will be given under the 'Pakistan Army Act, 1952'.
Call for unity
At the end of the advisory, the soldiers have been called upon to maintain unity, calling them the inheritors of the legacy of the martyrs. They have been given the message to remain united under the symbol of 'Crescent and Star'.
Advisory ends with slogan of Pakistan Zindabad
The advisory ends with the signature of Major General Faisal Mahmood Malik and the slogan of 'Pakistan Zindabad'. This document shows that the high officials of the army are well aware of the seriousness of the situation and are preparing to take strict measures to control the discontent among the soldiers.

Pahalgam incident and increasing tension
No official details have been given yet about the incident that happened in Pahalgam, but it is believed that some action of Pakistan-backed terrorists has increased the tension with India to a dangerous level. An atmosphere of fear has spread among the Pakistani soldiers due to the fear of a strong response from the Indian Army. According to sources, many soldiers have submitted applications to their senior officers for resignation or transfer. However, the army is calling it 'misleading propaganda' and is motivating the soldiers to maintain patience and perseverance.
Crisis on morale in the army
This is not the first time that the Pakistan Army has faced such an internal crisis. In the past years, the morale of the soldiers had also wavered while dealing with separatist violence in Balochistan and the North-West Frontier Province. But this time the matter has become even more serious because it is linked to the possibility of war with India.
Commotion in political circles
There is also a stir in the political circles of Pakistan regarding this advisory. Opposition leaders have raised questions on the government and the army leadership and said that when the morale of the soldiers is low, how will the security of the country be ensured? Many analysts have warned that if the trend of resignations and desertions is not stopped immediately, the war capability of the army may be badly affected.
The way forward
The army may have tried to control the situation by giving strict warnings, but the ground conditions are telling a different story. If the discontent among the soldiers is not understood deeply and attempts are made to suppress it only through disciplinary action, it can take the form of internal rebellion. Experts believe that the army will have to build trust among its soldiers not only through strictness but also through dialogue and trust. Otherwise, along with external threats, internal crisis can also become a serious threat to Pakistan's security.
