This Popular TV Actress Starred in India's Highest-Grossing Film, Remains Unmarried at 52 and is a Proud Mother

The Indian film industry releases countless movies every year—some go on to become blockbusters while others fail to impress. Among the rare gems that leave a lasting impact, one film from 2016 continues to hold the title of India’s highest-grossing film to date. That film is none other than ‘Dangal’, which not only became a box office sensation but also won the hearts of audiences worldwide.

What many might not know is that a well-known television actress played the role of Aamir Khan’s wife in this record-breaking film. That actress is Sakshi Tanwar, a respected name in Indian television.

Sakshi Tanwar's Journey from Television to the Big Screen

Sakshi Tanwar portrayed Daya Shobha Kaur, wife of Aamir Khan’s character Mahavir Singh Phogat, in Dangal. While Aamir Khan played the lead role of the wrestler and coach, Sakshi's performance brought emotional depth to the storyline, earning her acclaim.

Born on 12 January 1973 in Alwar, Rajasthan, Sakshi began her acting career with the television show ‘Karam’ in 2001. However, she rose to fame with her roles in household-favorite serials like ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii’ and ‘Bade Achhe Lagte Hain’. Her transition from television to cinema proved successful with Dangal, which became a global phenomenon.

Unmarried at 52, But Embracing Motherhood

Despite being in the public eye for decades, Sakshi Tanwar has kept her personal life private. She has never married, and at the age of 45, she made the heartfelt decision to adopt a daughter. In 2018, she welcomed Ditya Tanwar, who was then nine months old, into her life. Today, Sakshi is a devoted single mother, raising her daughter with love and care.

Dangal – A Record-Breaking Film

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal featured an ensemble cast including Fatima Sana Shaikh, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra, and Suhani Bhatnagar alongside Aamir Khan and Sakshi Tanwar. The film was based on the real-life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters, and it resonated with audiences both in India and internationally.

With a worldwide collection of ₹2,074 crore, Dangal continues to be India’s highest-grossing film, setting a benchmark in Indian cinema.
