Even non-smokers are falling victim
Earlier, oral cancer was usually seen in elderly men who used to smoke, drink alcohol or consume betel nut. But now this disease is also being seen in people who do not consume tobacco, especially in women. In the year 2020, more than 3,55,000 new cases of oral cancer were registered all over the world, out of which about 1,77,000 people died. Till now HPV infection (human papilloma virus) was being considered responsible for the increasing cases of this disease, but new research has negated the effect of HPV. Scientists say that excessive consumption of sweet beverages can be an important reason for the increasing cases of this deadly disease.
How to prevent oral cancer?
Researchers have suggested that it is important to reduce the consumption of sweet beverages. Apart from this, one should get regular dental and oral checkups done, especially if any unusual symptoms are felt. Adopting a balanced diet and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can also help prevent this disease. According to experts, sweet beverages not only increase obesity, but can also cause serious diseases like cancer. Therefore, to stay healthy, it is very important to avoid excessive consumption of cold drinks, packed juices and other sugary beverages.
