"They tore my coat, showed me a gun, and said, 'Lawyers like you are harassed every night...'" SC was shocked!

The petitioner's lawyer had gone to the Noida Sector 126 police station to lodge an FIR for the attack on her client, where her complaint was not registered, and her client was beaten.

A female lawyer has leveled serious allegations against the Noida police, alleging she was forcibly detained, threatened with a gun, and sexually assaulted at the police station. The lawyer filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Friday (December 19, 2025), alleging that the police station was sealed and her client was assaulted and continues to receive threats.

A woman lawyer alleges in the Supreme Court that she was sexually harassed at a Noida police station.

According to a Bar & Bench report, the petitioner lawyer stated that she had gone to court to complain about an attack on her client. When her complaint was not registered, she asked to speak to senior officers. The police station was then sealed, and her client was beaten, resulting in serious injuries. The lawyer stated that police officers detained her the next day without any written notice. She was held there for an hour and a half, where she was molested, threatened not to file a complaint, and subjected to obscene language. One police officer told her, "We call lawyers like you every night..."

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and N.V. Anjaria initially questioned the petitioner's lawyer, who lives in Noida, why she didn't go to the Allahabad High Court. However, the court later agreed to hear the case, citing the seriousness of the matter. Senior advocate Vikas Singh, representing the petitioner, told the court that police officers turned off CCTV cameras and sexually assaulted the lawyer at the police station. He requested that the CCTV footage be seized before it is deleted.

Senior Advocate Mahalakshmi Pavani, also appearing for the petitioner, stated that police officers had seized her client's mobile phone and deleted all videos. She expressed concern that the lawyer's life was in danger.

Advocate Vikas Singh also informed the court that the issue of installing CCTV cameras in police stations and ensuring they function properly is already pending in the Supreme Court. Therefore, this case could be considered a test case. He said that this should serve as a message to the entire country that such behavior against a lawyer is absolutely wrong. The court directed the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissioner to ensure that the footage from the incident is not deleted and to seal it.

Advocate Mahalakshmi also said that if such incidents could happen to lawyers, what would be the situation for ordinary people? The court said that if it heard the case under Article 32 of the Constitution, cases from all over Delhi would start coming here. This article grants the right to appeal directly to the Supreme Court. The court said, "We would have asked the petitioner to go to the High Court, but the petitioner has made very serious allegations, and considering that the matter regarding the installation and proper functioning of CCTV cameras in police stations is pending in the court, we will hear this case." The court then listed the case for hearing on January 7, 2026.

According to the petition, the incident occurred at the Sector 126 police station in Noida, where a female lawyer was molested and forcibly detained on December 3rd. The lawyer also suffered serious head injuries. The petitioner stated that she had gone to the police station with her lawyer's uniform and ID to file an FIR regarding the attack on her client. She alleges that the individuals who attacked her client are associated with a national news channel. Her client's medical report also revealed that she had suffered significant injuries.

When the lawyer went to the police station to file an FIR, two police officers refused to register the complaint. The lawyer then attempted to call the police emergency response service, but the police station was sealed and her client was assaulted. The lawyer said she was detained for an hour and a half the next day without any written reason.

According to the petition, during his detention, a police officer tore the lawyer's coat and began searching him, threatened him with a gun, and uttered obscene remarks. According to the petition, the police officer said, "Lawyers like you are called every night..." According to the petition, the lawyer's phone was seized, videos were deleted from his phone, and CCTV cameras at the police station were disabled or removed. The petitioner alleges that his client was pressured to withdraw the complaint. He stated that although the lawyer was released shortly after, he continues to receive threats.
