Summer’s heat, sweat, dust, and pollution can weaken your hair and scalp, causing dryness, hair fall, and dandruff. Oiling your hair can help, but only if done correctly with the right oils and methods.
1. Choose the Right Oil
Use light oils that absorb quickly and don’t make your scalp sticky or sweaty. Good options for summer are:
- Coconut oil – cools and nourishes the scalp
- Amla oil – strengthens and thickens hair
- Brahmi, Bhringraj, Jojoba, Almond oil – light and non-sticky
Avoid heavy oils that feel greasy in hot weather.
2. Timing of Application
- Apply oil 2-3 hours before washing your hair or
- Apply a light oil the night before and wash it off in the morning
You don’t need to keep the oil on for too long in summer.
3. Gentle Massage
Massage the oil into your scalp gently with your fingertips (not nails) to improve blood circulation and promote hair growth.
4. Use the Right Amount
Apply just enough oil to cover your scalp and hair lightly. Too much oil can increase sweating and attract dust, which harms your hair.
5. Warm the Oil Slightly
Heat the oil a little (lukewarm, not hot) before applying. Warm oil penetrates hair roots better and feels soothing.
6. Frequency of Oiling
Oiling 1-2 times a week is enough in summer. Over-oiling can make your scalp oily and dirty. Avoid oiling dirty hair, going out in the sun right after oiling, or washing hair immediately after oiling.
