The desire to look slim and fit is increasing rapidly in today's young generation, but sometimes this obsession can prove to be fatal. Recently, a shocking incident has come to light, where a teenager lost his life due to an online diet plan.

18-year-old girl Shrinanda, a resident of Kannur district of Kerala, died due to excessive dieting. Due to fear of gaining weight, Shrinanda had stopped eating for months, due to which her health deteriorated so much that she died during treatment. Shrinanda was a resident of Koothuparamba and was a first year student at Mattanur Pazhassiraja NSS College.

Srinanda was admitted to Thalassery Co-operative Hospital in a critical condition, where she was on ventilator for about 12 days. According to doctors, her condition was very critical when she was brought to the hospital. Her weight had dropped to just 24 kg and her blood sugar, sodium and blood pressure had dropped to dangerous levels. Despite all efforts, doctors could not save her life.

Online diet plan became the cause of death

According to family members, Shrinanda was very worried about gaining weight. She started following the diet plan found on online platforms and stopped eating and started depending only on hot water. She used to exercise for hours and abstain from food. Doctors suspect that Shrinanda was suffering from a mental illness called anorexia nervosa. In this condition, a person considers himself fat, even if he is very underweight, and he diets excessively to avoid eating.

Condition was deteriorating for months

Relatives said that Sreenandha had been staying away from food for the last 5-6 months. She hid this from her parents and kept harming her health silently. About five months ago she was taken to the hospital, where the doctors advised her to have proper nutrition and consult a psychiatrist. However, instead of improving, her condition worsened. Two months ago she was taken to Kozhikode Medical College, where again the doctors advised her to pay attention to nutrition. But Sreenandha's condition kept deteriorating. Two weeks ago, her blood sugar suddenly dropped very low and she started having trouble breathing, after which she was immediately admitted to the hospital.
